What Really Matters (Hint: Not Scotch or Politics)

Most of the content of this site is geared toward red-in-the-face arguments about politics or red-in-the-face bouts of testing new types of liquor that the writers here have found (I had a great new boubon a few weeks ago that a fellow writer and I found in a Dupont Circle wine shop, and can’t remember the name - more later), but we are going to switch it up a bit today and make sure that anyone who reads our site remembers some of the things that really matter - life, love, hope, faith and second chances just to name a few.

The New York Times has a story this morning about a couple who clung to each other other for 28 hours in debris left when their apartment building collapsed in last week’s earthquake in China. Take the time to read this now… go ahead, we’ll wait.

Done? OK, good. Now, if you have not already done it, think about how similar that is to every sappy love story you have ever seen or read… and then recal that this is real.

This is not a trumped up romance novel, but real life. This guy, in his deepest moment of despair, tried to break his neck to end his suffering, but when all was said and done, he and his wife - from whom he was esentially estranged - have rekindled their love for one another.

Simply an amazing story. If you didn’t do it earlier, read it now.
